Description
Location: Land Between the Lakes, Lyon County, Kentucky, Road 117 GPS: N 37 01’ 55.7” W 88 03’ 10.25” Directions to Access Point: Beginning at I-24, travel south on the Woodlands Trace Scenic Byway; turn left onto Road 117. Amenities: Dispersed Camping – No facilities. Dispersed Camping Permit required. Parking: 2 paved spaces Restrictions: None Safety: Wear your life jacket. Know your skills and limits. Wind and weather can create dangerous conditions. Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return. Plan to “Pack it in; pack it out!” South from Eddyville Ferry 3.3 miles south by the water trail to the Barnett Spring access point. Safety: Be aware of the wind and weather forecast. Once you leave the large bay from Eddyville Ferry, you will be traveling directly alongside the navigation channel. This navigation channel is used by barges and other large vessels that can create large, dangerous wakes that can easily capsize a canoe or kayak. These large vessels are restricted in their ability to maneuver and they travel much faster than they appear. Time Allotment: 1 hour, 45 minutes Trail Description: The trail south takes you through several small and mid-sized bays and along the shoreline of Lake Barkley to the Barnett Spring access point. Wildlife Viewing: Cultural Features: If you look across the lake from Eddyville Ferry you can see the Kentucky State Penitentiary which opened in 1889. Eddyville Ferry crossed the Cumberland River to the town of Eddyville at this location. It was the only connection across the river for the northern communities of Crossroads, Sardis, and Carmack before the lake was created. Natural Features: Fishing Information: North from Eddyville Ferry 3.7 miles north by the water trail to the Kuttawa Landing Camping Area access point. Safety: Be aware of the wind and weather forecast. Time Allotment: 2 hours Trail Description: The trail north takes you through several small and mid-sized bays, and around the northernmost point of Land Between the Lakes to the Kuttawa Landing Camping Area access point.
