Description
This resaca is located in Dean Porter Park. There is no park entrance fee or launch fee. Great bird watching location! You can see Great Blue Herons, ducks, and white herons anytime. The green headed parrots fly through at sunset.
There is not a boat ramp yet but it is very easy to launch kayaks or SUP from the bank. I recommend launching around this area because it is a little deeper. Other places along the bank the water is are more rocks and mud making it more difficult to launch. This resaca is about a half mile if you go from one end to the other and back again. The city of Brownsville is planning to put in a Kayak launch in fall of 2023.
Watch out for rocks and concrete sticking up out of the water, not difficult to avoid as long as you pay attention.
Watch out for people fishing from the bank as well. I do not recommend eating these fish!
There are year round bathrooms in the covered pavilion up the hill. There are also picnic tables in the pavilion.
If you go to the Sams Pool(located at the front of the park)during open swim (call the city of Brownsville for hours as they change seasonally), you can pay 2 dollars for swimming pool admittance and this will allow you to use the pool showers. There are water fountains sprinkled throughout the park. There is also a free playground for kids. Only about a quarter mile from the Expressway.
