Description
Location: Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge in Humphreys County, TN, on Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River Access: An improved boat ramp is located near the end of Refuge Lane in the Duck River Bottoms south of New Johnsonville, TN. Restrictions: This impoundment is closed seasonally from Nov. 15th to Mar. 15th Time Allotment: 1 hour + Hazards: This impoundment is shallow with many stumps and bald cypress knees. Scenic Area: This narrow impoundment has many bald cypress trees which gives it a Reelfoot Lake or swamp feel. It is a favorite place for those fishing crappie or sunfish. • Bring snacks, water, bug repellent, and possibly binoculars. Wildlife Viewing: Exceptional • A wide variety of wildlife frequents the area throughout the year. o Osprey nests are plentiful in this area, eagles are often seen flying over. o Waterfowl begin arriving on their migration route in late October and November. Wood ducks will be nesting in the cavities and boxes surrounding this area. o Great blue herons, egrets, green herons, cormorants and grebes frequent this area.
