Description
This site is at the Kezar Lake Dam about 1.5 miles (straight line) below the South Bay of Kezar Lake. This location provides access to Kezar Lake (upstream), Charles Pond/Cold River and the Old Course of the Saco. A 100 yard channel below the dam leads to the junction with the Charles River flowing down from Charles Pond and the Cold River which feeds Charles Pond. Another 100 yards downstream from that confluence you reach the Old Course of the Saco (OCS). Upstream on the OCS the riverbed is mostly a series of unconnected sloughs that were cutoff when the new channel for the Saco was dug in the 1800's. The downstream OCS is a sweet paddle that sees little use for about 4 miles before it reaches the outlet from Kezar Pond at the Hemlock Covered Bridge. The stretch down to the Hemlock Bridge can be scratchy later in the summer when water is held in Kezar lake.
