The new Safari is substantially bigger than the old model. I am 5’10” and the footrest is a little too far away for me. There are no pads glued on to the sides and seat. For me, it is still a better fit than the old model, but my wife is petite and says it is too large for her. We took it down the Blackfoot River which is a fast-moving river with nice rapids. The Safari performed well. I used my usual whitewater paddle and kept doing ‘air strokes ‘ because of the high seat position. I bought a much longer paddle to compensate. Jury is still out for that paddle. I have not had it out on a lake yet so I have not tried the Skeg. I plan to pack the Safari to some seldom-boated lakes and bring camping gear. This boat does not come close to my sea kayak or whitewater boat, but it is so light and packable, and fun, that it is getting good use. It is also good for a guest boat, so friends can come with us. Stable, capable and fun. A good pack pump and air gauge are essential. I am liking this boat! Quality is good, and design is tried and true.
