Just returned from an 18 day , 410 km paddle across Bass Strait between mainland Australia and Tasmania. One of the world’s potential roughest crossing, one day of 70 kms open ocean to next island. Plenty of serious waves & rebound, however this Delta is a superb kayak for these conditions & can carry more than enough gear for an unsupported trip of this duration. Comfort for 12 hours in the kayak absolutely fine, hatches completely watertight, able to cruise at a high speed. A confidence inspiring boat, shouldn’t have been discontinued.
Beautifully made , quality finish, very comfortable. Exceptionally capable in extreme rough water and can carry heaps of gear for big expeditions.
Tracks really well, whether running with wave & winds, cross & head winds. Minimal rudder input required and responds well to both edging and leaning .
Probably suits paddlers over 170lbs and 5’ 8” due to its size, however is surprisingly nimble & responsive.
Unfortunately no longer made, if you have one, that’s your good fortune, if one comes up for sale, you won’t buy a better expedition kayak.
