I've been paddling the medium 9RII for a full year on Class 3/4 rivers in the Southeast and very happy with the results. The 9RII is a fast creeker with significant rocker to glide over drops and through holes. She's easy to roll, pivots quickly and easy for the novice or advanced kayaker to get into.
My daughter is 7 and goes rafting and kayaking as often as we can get out. The Otter 2.0 is simply the best kid's PFD on the market. It's comfortable, allows full range of motion and has extra protection on the side if she were to go for a swim. Speaking of swimming the Otter comes with removable leg straps that are a nice plus if your child is using it for swimming. I'd recommend this PFD to any parent and I'll be picking up another one or two Otter 2.0's for her little brothers.
I'm by no means a great full slice kayaker or playboater, so I was uncertain about how the homeslice would fit me. I'm 6'0, 175lbs and fit comfortably. It's also big enough that I don't feel as though I'm getting tossed around in bigger water. I've paddled all on Class 2-3, including plenty of time on the Ocoee River. The Homeslice's low volume bow and stern are extremely playful but it also surfs well on waves. As someone who didn't have a stern squirt, I was able to obtain one rather quickly and get this boat vertical. As an intermediate paddler, I also feel MUCH more comfortable paddling the Homeslice downriver than a true playboat like a Rockstar, Jed or Freeride.
