The Blackwater is fast and tracks very well. Compared to my Approach, though, it turns like a battleship, nor is it as stable. I've learned to make sharper turns by pulling up the skeg before turning. It's great for open flat water & cuts through small waves. I plan on touring with it next summer, after I make the seating more comfortable. It gets uncomfortable after 45 - 50 minutes. I knock it down one point for the seat.

The Approach is more stable and maneuverable than the Dagger Blackwater and Element recreation kayaks, both of which are faster. The seats are more comfortable, too. The two issues I've had with the Approach were the skegs and the leaking "dry" storage area. The skeg would hang up. I fixed the skeg problem and use dry bags. I refitted the braces on one of the kayaks for shorter people. Friends who've compared my Approach with my Blackwater like the Approach for it's stability in rough water & ease of turning, while others, mostly lighter kayakers, like the Blackwater for its speed.

My Viper isn't fast or used for all-day trips, but it's a great play boat on small lakes and slow streams. I mostly use it for leisurely paddling about or having super soaker water gun battles at the lake. The seat is comfortable and water bottles are secure in the well. I've experience no problems with the skeg, either. Wind makes the Viper a challenge to stay on course, and the included paddle is cumbersome. My Harmony Adventure paddle was a huge improvement. For a play boat and the price, it's a decent buy. For a more serious kayaking on lakes and streams, I'd choose a Wilderness System Tarpon (sit-on-top) or a Dagger Blackwater (recreational).
