I've been paddling a K2 for over 25 years. I LOVE IT. It packs well, into 2 duffles, and am able to include other supplies, to meet the weight requirement for airlines. A friend and I have packed food and gear for over a month. And we don't travel light. Yes, we bring chairs. Last year we were the first at the head waters of the Noatak. The water was really high, some rapids. The boat performed extremely well. We hit some rocks, and it righted itself wonderfully. Mostly I like to paddle around glaciers. I've been to many of them in Alaska. The boat is a little home on the water. I'm 63 years old, and after partially emptying it, my friend and I can carry it above high tide with ease. My boat isn't in the shape it was. Time and miles take their toll. Next week we're leaving for Misty Fijords and Great Bear.
If anyone has purchased a K2 and decided they don't like it, let me know. My boat has given me 1000s of miles of comfortable paddling. I've heard the newer makes are more waterproof. And since mine started out red and is now pink, I think they've taken care of that, too.
