Great boat for the money. I picked up my Viper 10.4 for $199 at Menards in the early spring of 2015. I paddled the Boundary Waters as a teenager and have always loved being out on the water. I've always wanted a self propelled boat, but just hadn't had the chance until recently. Finally, now that I'm in my 30s, I picked this up as an entry level craft to go paddle the Fox River and get a feel for the type of craft I really need, canoe vs kayak. I think it's important to add the caveat that I am 6'4 - 240 lbs. If you're a big man or woman, this review is for you.

Positives of this kayak include: lightweight, durable (so far), plenty of room in the cockpit, cup holder, foot braces (not quite deep enough for me, but a nice addition to a normal sized paddler), nice tie down system, can beat it up a bit without feeling bad.

Negatives: paddles like a tank, doesn't track well. This could be due to my size, or the construction. The bottom of the boat has a dual keel, and very dull entry lines.

From a value perspective, this boat is a 10/10. Any novice paddler would do well to purchase the Viper 10.4. It'll get you on the water safely and inexpensively. And give you great perspective on what you are looking for when you want to step it up to the real deal.
