I've owned several Protec helmets over the past ten years and have not had any failures in strap mounting. After long use I have seen a couple of Velcro patches come loose. I guess Protec had the wrong quality control people at certain times. I would certainly like a better helmet, but most won't fit my fat head.

Check the dates of the previous negative reviews: All >2 years old. The company has cleaned up their act, and now ProTec helemts are just as good as any comparably priced helmets. We have one in our stable, and it's 100% satisfactory.

Pro Tec Kayak Helmet: in less than a year the metal rivots holding on chin straps have rusted and one side is now unsafe as it's about to fall off. The velcro attachments for the inner padding are out of place, therefore the inners can fall out. This wasn't the cheapest helmet available. I've used Ace helmets at a third of the price of Pro Tec and they've given me "years" of service.

All of the helmet lining had fallen out after only 6 months of use. The velcro attachments were unable to be repaired and Pro-Tec refused to sell liner replacements. Poorest quality out of any helmet I've used. Since then, I've worn Bell and Wildwater without any issues. The Bell is a little on the heavy side but very well made. I would never purchase a Pro-Tec helmet again.

Of all the helmets we use it is better than all except Bell. Well constructed, durable, takes abuse, good firm fit, bright colors. Guides prefer side cut to be able to hear.
