I'm fortunate enough to have a job working as a kayak guide on the Antarctica Peninsula each austral summer. We encounter wildlife in all its forms. Here, a sleeping leopard seal allowed us to circle his ice floe several times. We heard him echolocating in his sleep, probably dreaming of navigating among the floes. He was making sonar sounds that sounded as if they were coming from far away. It was eerie and fantastic.Photo taken by Richard Spivey.
