By far the best (and only)…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 8/1/2013
By far the best (and only) real surfing kayak out there. Originally innovated in the 80's in the powerful N. Shore surf of Oahu, this surfski/kayak has been refined over the years and stands out from all the others in many ways. It tracks well, paddles fast, and transforms from a displacement boat to a planing "surfboard" with steerable (center fin) rudder on the back half of the boat when surfing. Just YouTube "wave witch" and see for yourself. Carbon fiber heaven. 4 sizes to choose from depending upon rider build and type of waves being surfing. The Witchlet is the best "all round" kayak for all types of waves.

Finally a real sit-on-top…

Finally a real sit-on-top surf kayak. For those interested in strictly catching waves, and actually riding them, the Hunt Johnsen custom designed Wave Witch kayak is your only option. Innovated and tested for the past 30 years on the wave-heavy island of Oahu, it is the ultimate surfing machine. Of his 4 models, the Witchlet seems to be the best for all wave conditions. At 26 lbs in kevlar, they are lighter than most polyurathane boats and easier on your back. I see them as basically a lighter, more stable mini-surfski. The Witchlet can even outpace most SUP paddlers in the lineup catching more waves. It also shines on blown-out days where it is either too windy or out of control for other surfing craft. I now have 3 Wave Witch kayaks to cover all wave conditions. Just Google them for video results to see their surfing ability. For more info, check out:
