Used a Tango while in…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 5/24/2018

Used a Tango while in Labadee, Haiti on a family cruise. While I enjoyed the experience of kayaking on the Caribbean Ocean, the Tango was not a good kayak for the ocean... or any other body of water for that matter. I have two kayaks for my personal use - a Lifetime Eddy 132 which I bought in 2014 and after enjoying the experience of kayaking, I bought a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120. Paddling on the Tango was not a pleasant experience, the kayak felt like it was being dragged along on thick mud when paddling - I mean HARD paddling - stop paddling and you come to a stop very quickly. My Eddy 132 and Pungo 120 glides through the water with little effort, at full speed, you'll still glide 30 to 40 feet before the kayaks come to a rest. My mother decided to buy a kayak so she could come with me - she's 4'10" and 66 years old so she bought herself a Pelican Trailblazer 80 NXT. She had trouble keeping up with me so I let her use mine and now she refuses to use hers anymore because of how much more difficult it was. She used the Tango as well and she compared it to her Pelican Trailblazer 80 NXT. We weren't impressed to say the least and I would not recommend buying these for personal use, you can get a much better kayak for the same price or even less.

Recently rented Tango kayaks…

Recently rented Tango kayaks for my group of 4 over a weekend and found them to be very stable and easy to maneuver for beginners. More advanced kayakers enjoyed the speed/partial keel. Would be nice if the bow area was storage area for day trips. Too bad RTM kayaks are hard to find.
