Finding the right tent can be…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 8/2/2013
Finding the right tent can be challenging and can break the bank. I stumbled across the Quechua 2 second pop up tent. It's a large disk that has two carry handles and two straps for carrying on your back. It measures about 30 inches across and can easily be strapped to the top of a kayak. It pops open just like it shows in the diagram. It comes with some metal stakes and guy wires.

The outer shell covers the inner mesh tent. This allows for lots of ventilation, but this is not a foul weather tent because of it. I would not want to deal with wind driven rain in this thing. The floor is black nylon, a little heavier material than the outer shell. The inner mesh tent has little pouches left and right for holding small items. There is a rear vent window and of course two zippers at the entrance with a bit of overlapping nylon at the outer zipper.

Setting the tent up literally only takes 2 seconds, and taking it down doesn’t take much longer, but can be a bit tricky. I suggest you practice a few times before taking it out and getting frustrated. It claims to be a two person tent. Two people would be pretty cramped. I consider it a one person tent with plenty of room for gear; of course, I'm 6 ft, 230 lbs.

I took a couple points because it is pretty much only useful in good weather and at 30 inches wide(only 2 inches thick) may be a bit bulky for some tastes
