Absolutely LOVE this kayak!!! I've used several different ones and this by far is the best. Seems to have the best of both worlds, speed and stability. Roomy cockpit, plenty of storage, and very durable.

this kayak did not meet my expectation at all for an Old Town product - overall features and build are below what we should see of a $1k kayak - I also own a Perception Pescador Pilot which (for less than $200 more) has pedal drive and a whole host of features which make it far better quality (and Yes, that includes build) and a much more 'usable' kayak. The only reason I give 3 stars is weight- reasonable- I didn't find tracking particularly good either.

Old Town has really upped their game with their Loon 126 Angler. In 2014, I purchased a Dirigo 120. The knee padding consisted of foam rubber strips and it was a heavy and slow boat. By contrast, everything about the 126 Angler is top notch. The seat is super comfortable, padding is fabric, the day storage is deep and roomy. It is also super fast, buoyant, tracks great and handles very well in high wind. My only complaint is that I am still working on getting the seat to my specs. One more thing: It would seem the 126 Angler will be more durable than my Pungo 120 but only time will tell.

I purchased this kayak a month ago and everything about it is an improved from my previous kayak. It tracks even better than I expected and the work deck offers great storage and quick access to important gear while fishing. The only drawback thus far is the seat placement in the cockpit, I wish the cockpit had a larger opening behind the seat as seen on kayaks from wilderness systems.

I am a large 240 lb male who likes to pack along approx. 100 lbs of gear. This kayak handles this easily. The 126 Angler is very stable and tracks well. I have had 4 back surgeries and a fusion and the seat is very comfortable for me. No drawbacks to this kayak that I can find.

The Old Town Loon Angler 126 is a great overall recreational and fishing kayak. I am amazed at the stability, I’m able to exit the boat simply by “scootching” up and stepping out on to the shore. It tracks very well, comes with an easy to use anchor system, a paddle holder which I use when I’m in a good spot for casting, pole holders and a multi use rail which I’ve attached another rod holder for trolling. Easy to control, fast and easy, built like a warship, an awesome boat that fits my lifestyle of cruising, fishing, birdwatching and fun.

I actually bought the Loon 126 standard and rigged it myself for less than the $100 up charge for the Angler Version. Only difference is the recessed rod holders and anchor trolley. I don't like flush mount rod holders so put a pair of Wise adjustable recessed mount rod holders behind the seat and another on the removable console. The Loon 126 is fast and easy to paddle. The removable console has a gear track ideal for mounting your depth finder. You could even put a battery for your depth finder in the removable console if you liked. I chose to just put it behind the seat. Your depth finder can read through the hull so no need to make something to hang it over the side. The hulls are made of Polylink 3 and are very durable.

I tried to compare this boat…

Submitted by: paddler433067 on 6/25/2018

I tried to compare this boat to the Pungo 120 as many people have expressed their love of it. However, looking online found many people felt the Loon 120/126 and Pungo were pretty similar. I wound up choosing the Old Town for the following reasons: A) The seat - which everyone said is super comfortable. It is. I was on a week long paddle and was comfortable the entire time and plenty of ways to adjust the seat. B) The looks. I preferred the color options of the Loon vs Pungo overall. The deck cords are also recessed which looks pretty cool to me. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the boat while in the water. C) Weight capacity. I was hoping for something that can haul gear if needed and the Loon has high capacity and open hull for storage. I also like the click seal hatch.

In the wild, I find the USB port in the console to be somewhat silly - but the hatch itself is water tight. I paddled in rain/hail storm with my phone inside and it doesn't get any water whatsoever in. However, if you do have any condensation from food/bags inside it will build up internally - similar to the main hatch.

My only complaints that I have is that it is a little more heavy than other boats we had on the water, but not by much. The keyhole opening is enormous, but you can get a Seals Spray Skirt (Size 7) to fit - but it's fairly complicated to get all the way on as the opening is gigantic. Many people also didn't like the handles for carrying as they recede back tight to the boat - but I like the way that looks better. If you want to secure the boat with a cable, there isn't any good built in spots. I ended up cutting out one of the bottoms of the fishing pole holders to loop a security cable through. If you have a very skinny cable you could put it through the drain plug hole, but otherwise there aren't any good options.

Overall I'm very happy with the boat and may get another to pair it off unless something else comes along that far surpasses it in the future. For a recreational boat it's hard to beat. Long term I may go with something that is a little narrower/smaller keyhole but time will tell.
