We purchased the 4 place…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 6/24/2003
We purchased the 4 place canoe trailer, which comes with an extension tongue to carry up to 18 foot canoes. We also purchased the trailer jack stand. Problems noted by other reviewers were evident. Shipment was over 3 weeks delayed despite being told it was in stock when ordered, and when the trailer arrived in several boxes, many parts were missing. Inventory is not easy, as the parts are not packaged together and are somewhat difficult to identify without spending and hour or two before beginning assembly (highly recommended, nonetheless!). All parts were easily purchased at local hardware stores, but this increases assembly time. Instructions, which are the same for all models, are really inadequate for this model and often a puzzle to follow for the more complicated trailer. "Self drilling" machine screws are required at several steps, and this requires a special bit for a good power drill. Finally, the galvanized version is not available for UCT4, and the white paint is pretty shotty - many sections showed rust on delivery. The tail lights are not very bright and raise some safety concerns. The design and flexibility of this trailer is pretty neat, but the company really does not have it's act together. Expect missing parts and at least a full day to put this one together. Also be sure you have the necessary power tools and accessories for the many bolts and machine screws - this requires more than a screw driver and a wrench. I have not used the trailer yet, and hopefully it will serve well now that I finally have it together.
