In the late 70's (1900's for you yununs) I purchased a Lincoln canoe that was about 18' long. It was fiberglass with a birchbark gelcoat. It also was built with a 3/4 inch keel for better tracking on open water. It weighed approximately 84 lbs with cane wicker seats. Having owned it for more than 30 years, I cannot tell you the nautical miles it covered. Sometimes up to a week floating down the Neuse river carrying supplies for two. (google it). I eventually gave it to a young man I worked with so he could make his own memories with his children. How things change...I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $350 if my memory is half of what it once was. I got my money's worth and then some.
