The 5.3 Meter is one of the finest tripping canoes available. It can carry a large load across open water or down a whitewater river. Its flared bow sheds excess water. A sliding bow seat to adjust the trim is standard.

It's a beautiful canoe, visually inspiring and exceptionally light in Kevlar at 46#. It tracks nicely and turns well... but unless heavily loaded, initial stability is low. The gel coat finish on mine was exceptional, but other details of construction were poorly executed. My canoe had a twist in the gunwales at the stern that was almost 20 degrees, and the vacuum bagging technique left messy wrinkles and large blisters of resin in the interior of the hull.

On the basis of performance, I'd give a 9, but because of the poor attention to detail in finish I lower the score to a 7. Maybe the vacuum bagging wrinkles and blisters don't hurt anything, but the twist in the gunwales is just unacceptable for a canoe in this price range. I returned mine to the dealer.
