The Detonator, what can I say. Well for one thing the boat not only catches eddies it snap's into them without much effort. This boat may not have much downstream speed only 10feet, but making river moves not much else can catch her. I have had mine on creeks such as Wilson Creek Whitetop and cleaned the Lower Gualey, and New River Gorge. The boat handles everything. I love mine. This may not be the boat for everyone, but if you like to have fun on the river don't pass one by.

Esquif "Nitro" This boat measures 11'6" and weighs in at a whopping 51 pounds. It is extremely stable and dry in big water. It surfs very well and is very maneuverable in eddies. This is definitely better than anything I have paddled before and it rolls easily. The only down side of the boat is that it is slow and some of the construction of the deck is rather cheap.

I bought one in 2003. I love it. If you paddle OC-1 in whitewater, this is THE boat to buy. The only negatives are 1) its size: by the time you inflate the bags there's room for very little but you in it (but that's also a positive for handling) and 2) the cosmetic workmanship: it's functionally adequate but the bow & stern trim is cheap (looks cheap), poor fitting molded plastic stuck on with pop rivets.
But this is the only OC that I've paddled that handles just like a planing hull kayak. Blunt bow keeps you in control when ferrying and peeling out. The bow and the high sides keep you amazingly dry in big wave trains and holes. Hands down, best handling & surfing/play boat/river runner made. Not for a beginner - it's so loose a novice will be swimming a lot. Every experienced paddler that I've let paddle it, loves it. That big grin always emerges.

Very stable and forgiving for a 10' long boat, however, the boat is very quick and requires that you pay a little attention while paddling. Stays surprisingly dry running through wave trains and while surfing. This boat surfs like a bat out of - well you get the picture. You'll seek out stronger and stronger eddy lines to whip across just to see how fast you can make this boat turn. Having paddled the boat for a few months, it's now my favorite boat of all time.
