I bought my 10' ELIE Sound as my 1st kayak. It handles very well in came waters for beginners or someone who is around lakes most of the time. I did take it out on the river when there were 2' waves and it handled them very nicely but I would recommend buying a spray skirt when doing that. I did have a little water in the cockpit but it loved the waves and responded nicely. I would highly recommend this kayak to anyone who would like to go out and just relax on the water. It is easy for most people to carry by yourself The cockpit is easy to get in and out of. The only downfall is that it is slow.

The Elie Sound 100 XE has great maneuverability and perfect for recreational kayak. Its 42 pound weight make it way to carry, especially with the handles. Very easy to get in and out of the kayak with its wide cockpit. It also has beverage holder which is simpler than having to hold on to, or tied to the bow or not having one at all. Perfect kayak for river kayaking.

We bought the Elie Sound 100 for my wife as a starter kayak. She loves it, but it is a little tight for me - 6'1" versus her 5'5" frame . When I used it, it tracked well and turned pretty quickly. Construction seems pretty good - but the decals peel off as others have mentioned. It is pretty light and she has no problem carrying it.

Overall a very good first, starter kayak. I don't think she will 'out grow' it anytime soon. Me, I need a larger boat to be comfortable in.
