I just bought my Destin 10.4…

Submitted by: Delta-Foxtrot on 4/16/2019

I just bought my Destin 10.4 a few weeks ago (3/19/2019); didn't know and don't care about the discontinued bit. It cost me $225.00 new at my local Walmart (the only place to buy a kayak within 35 miles of my home). Everything else was more money with less carrying capacity.

I've been out maybe eight times and I'd say it's pretty amazing for the price. I owned another yak around 2003 (don't remember the name, it was a SOT with similar specs to the Destin, but it cost me $500 used at that time), I'd say the Destin is its equal in every way, for less than half the price. If you are in the market for a yak and come across one for around $225 it is WAY worth it. (Amazon has some listed, but they're $300 to $388 - I guess that extra is $150 is for a "shipping charge").

Oh, by the way, it came with a (marginal) paddle, (marginal) seat and adequate scupper plugs. It does NOT have an in-hull storage system, but the two bungees are adequate for most anything you'll need to carry on a one-person boat AND you won't lose anything in the interior of the hull.

HIGHLY recommended at the price. Not so much for $100-150 more. There may be better options.

I bought the Destin 10.4 a week ago and am very satisfied with it. I am 73 years old and weigh 265# or so. I have been out in it five times and only have gotten wet twice getting out of it in too shallow water. It is extremely stable and boyant. I have been getting used to the backrest.and it works well. Very little water comes in through the scuppers in the foot wells at my weight. It tracks well and draws very little water. I have used kayaks with lower weight capacities in the past and found them to be very unstable.

My wife and I purchased two of the Destin 10.4 in April and finally got them out on the river in July. Both of us agreed that they tracked and balanced well. Will get an extra pad though to place behind the back to make more comfortable. No regrets!

I bought the Destin because it was the only affordable kayak I could find that met my weight limit. I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It’s very stable and tracks well, especially for such a cheap kayak. The only drawbacks are the weight (45 lbs), the seat is not very comfortable for longer trips and the scupper holes will not fit any plugs I’ve found so far.
