14' Bump Rider Wide Description

The 14’0″ x 30″ Bump Rider Wide has a planing hull designed for fast downwind runs and open ocean racing. The outline, rocker and rail shape has been refined over the last few years by Rob and the Blue Planet race team, resulting in a board that fits perfectly into the bumps for speed with minimum effort and has proven itself with excellent race results. The board has been meticulously tested in Hawaiian waters (from the shorter Oahu north shore races to the world renown Moloka’i to Oahu race) in all kinds of conditions and has exceeded the expectations of the entire Blue Planet design team. If you are looking to increase the fluid dynamics of your racing equipment, maintain stability and optimize performance, look no further than the Blue Planet Bump Rider Wide.

Great Board! I have a wide…

Great Board! I have a wide mix of water movement and environments where I live, so the board sees flat glass, choppy and open swells, and soon surf as well. Even on small, inter-coastal swells (typically when the tide is changing around bottom contours) you can tell the board wants to chase the leading edge, it catches you off guard if you aren't ready. The planing style hull may not be the fastest but it definitely tracks and handles chop predictably, the wide stance helps with side chop and wake if you aren't sure footed yet and on larger rolling, choppy swells it makes for a much better ride than a skinnier stick will give you. I personally enjoy the amount of deck space when its break/snack time, and that the board is sensitive to foot placement and fin choice. I am looking forward to longer and longer rides and Downwinding, time to start planning...

I have tried different brands of 14’ SUP boards paddling in various ocean shoreline conditions found around Oahu. For downwinders, I enjoy joining the paddlers for Wet Feet and Blue Planet’s Wednesday downwinder for a five mile (?) run from Hawaii Kai to Waialae Beach park “Kahala run”. I purchased the 14’ Bumprider-wide and it is perfect for me. The 30” width provides a stable ride that can handle the bumps with speed and agility. It’s a well-rounded board for flatter conditions as well. My model is “Rasta” colors and the deck pad is comfy. The handle allows for easy transport to and from the beach. A great board for me!

I rode this 14' blue planet…

I rode this 14' blue planet Bump Rider at a board clinic/demo BP was hosting about 4 months ago. the board was 30" wide, had plenty vol, moved well and was very stable as i'm about 240lbs. the only aspect i wasn't keen on was that it was very blue. other than that the board would be ideal for an open ocean downwind race. I have a Starboard Open Ocean 14' that feel more stable and would probably do better in open ocean troughs as the vol is weighted in the nose. But all in all i would consider the Bump Rider if it came in a diff color...not so BLUE. Pros At 30" wide it was stable for a heavier rider, glided well and was stable. Cons the color...flat blue throughout. Usage racing and conditioning
