Trip Overview

My friend and I did a seven mile stretch of the Strong River near D'Lo Mississippi from the abandoned bridge at Merit Rd. to the bridge at Robert Bush Rd. We did the trip about 2 weeks after Hurricane Katrina and suspected that we would run into a few fallen trees so we took saws. Very much to my surprise there was only one new tree down on the stream and it was passable. In fact the high water from Katrina had washed away existing trees that were a problem for years. The water level was around 2.40' but the flow was good and the river was as beautiful as I have ever seen it. There are at least 4 nice rapids along this stretch of river that are very easy to navigate. The Strong is a great stream if you just want to chill. It is best floated when the water is around 3.50' to 4.00 at 2.40 we did scrub the bottom a few times.
