Trip Overview

My buddy Frank and I put in below the Percy Priest Dam and paddled our Kayaks down the Stones River to the Cumberland River. Then proceeded down the Cumberland to Lock 2 Park near Opryland Hotel. It was about 20 degrees and snowing the whole day. One of the most beautiful days of the year for paddling in my opinion. Goretex parkas and ski gloves and a nice warm hat made for a warm and toasty paddle during what would be considered near Blizzard conditions for Tennessee. Icicles hanging from the deckbags, elbows, and snow covered decks!! What a great Day!!! We were out for roughly 5 hours and had a blast.

Directions:

From Nashville, take hwy 40 east to the Stewarts Ferry Pike Exit (South) and drive across the dam to the small road leading to the parking lot below the dam. The take out is located in a small Park called Lock 2 Park located off of McGavock Pike just southeast of Briley Parkway.
