Trip Overview

This excellent 500+ acre lake is very close to metro Atlanta and is ideal for a quick exercise session, try a demo boat, and short trips of 2 - 4 hours. Water is relatively clean and deep. Secure and adequate parking at boat ramp Access is from a boat ramp also used by small powerboats. Longest one-way distance is about 2.5 miles, but there are lots of inlets for exploring. Also, you may see a large paddleboat [see picture] and hear the 730-bell carllion out on the lake. Other activities include hiking trails, golf, & tennis. Stick around after dark and they have a great laser show at night on the side of the mountain. Accommodations: Park has several lodges and large campground. Fees: $15 daily parking, also have annual passes. Directions: Stone Mountain Park is located 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, on Highway 78, the Stone Mountain Freeway.
