Staunton (Roanoke) River in Virginia

Trip Overview

Easy put in and take out. No fee! Local stores close by each end for forgotten or needed items. From the area residents the water was up a few feet from normal. The clarity of the water was exceptional which was confusing as normally raised water is more murky. Some rocks were hidden just out of view under the surface.

Nice drops and ledges creating an interesting ride. Just enough play areas between water paddles to break up the day--keeping splashes and laughs a plenty. Many easy places to pull off for picnic along the route.

While this trip took 5 hours, it could have taken much less as we stopped often to view wildlife and visit, swim and picnic along the way.
