Trip Overview

We paddled & fished the South Llano River on Friday & Saturday. It was a GREAT trip. The weather was good, except a bit windy at times. The water was OUTSTANDING. Crystal clear, & flowing enough to only cause a couple of hang-ups. We paddled from the State park to the Junction city park on Friday afternoon in about 5 hours, fishing along the way. We went from the 1st crossing on US 377 to the State park on Saturday. That was an all day trip, approximately 12 hours. This could be done faster, of course, without fishing. However, the river is bordered by private land with no road crossings except the put in/ take out points I mentioned, so once you're there, you're there. There are lots of small rapids, followed by long, slow, deep pools. There were a few log jams, but no other real problems. We saw lots of deer, heard the wild turkeys gobbling, & caught quite a few fish as well. All in all a great trip, with great scenery.
