Trip Overview

This is an excellent paddle. It allows for various distances. You can take the Miller Ferry to the Island or you can paddle to the state park from Catawba. Catawba to the state park on South Bass Island is about 4 miles. It can smooth as silk or a rough ride if the wind picks up. There is about 3 miles unsheltered. Once you are to the Island you can camp. Without a car you are almost guaranteed a campsite. The island can be quiet or can be the party of your life in town. It has everything to offer. And there is extensive paddling to do around the island if you like. And if it gets rough for your liking you can take the ferry back.

Accommodations:

Camp at the state campground.

Fees:

Camping fees are about $8 per tent per night. The ferry is $8 per direction but of course you can paddle both ways if you like.

Directions:

Put in is just east of the Miller Boat Line on Catawba Island. Catawba Island is about 4 miles east of Port Clinton and 40 miles east of Toledo.

Contact:

Forget calling the Park. They will give no info. The main thing to remember is if you do not bring your car to the Island they will find a place for you to put your tent.
