Smithville Lake in Missouri

Trip Overview

It seems funny to categorize a lake as moderately difficult, but a pretty constant wind on most of my trips and heavy motor boat traffic makes Smithville Lake less than ideal for true beginners.

The boat ramp/marina area doesn't have a lot of nature to see, as this part of the lake borders a golf course. The water quality is less than ideal because of the boat traffic as well. My wife complained about kayaking through trash. There is a $5 per vehicle admission and kayakers are not counted as bringing in a boat.

Accommodations:

The marina has two boat ramps, restaurant and restroom facilities.

Fees:

$5 per vehicle

Directions:

The Camp Branch Marina is located off MO route W. I found Rte 169 North is the easiest way to get there.
