Paddle to one of the last privately-owned lodges on Virginia's Barrier Islands for three days and two nights of kayaking some of the best waters on the East Coast, dining on fresh seafood, and doing yoga on the deck. Holly Bluff Island, perched at the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore, is surrounded by wildlife refuge and within striking distance for day trips to barrier islands like Mockhorn, Smith Island (home of the Cape Charles Lighthouse) and Fisherman Island. It's a short, easy paddle to the 1930s historic hunting cottage where you will harvest your own oysters and crabs for a seafood roast on the deck, also a great place for rocking chairs and morning yoga. The cottage is "off the grid," but has beds and linens, hot showers, refrigeration and gas lighting. It's truly like stepping back in time.
