Make the sea your playground. With skills to handle wind and waves, current and surf, these forms of energy become resources and sources of joy.
Sea Paddler Training is a 6-day immersion style training designed to take you from calm water competence to dynamic water confidence. Different venues provide a spectrum of challenges and learning opportunities. The Loreto National Marine Park, on the Sea of Cortez, provides rocky features, close islands, and warm water, as well as stunning mountain scenery. Puerto San Carlos, on Magdalena Bay on the Pacific side, delivers current, surf, and more reliable wind. Both have amazing wildlife to distract and delight you on our learning path. Restaurant dinners are included, and hotels are an option.
Inclusive w/camping, transfers & kayak $1690
Inclusive with shared room (if available) $1790
Inclusive with private room $2090
For your safety and that of others in the class, appropriate experience is required. Calm wet exit, very good boat control in calm water, and some choppy water experience are the minimum.
SKBM features professional-quality equipment! Their kayaks are single, British-style kayaks with skegs, such as the NDK Explorer, Romany, and Pilgrim Expedition, plus P&H, and Tide Race. Seda doubles are available upon request. Werner Paddles 205-220cm. Don Beale Greenland paddles. Kokatat, MSR, Therm-a-Rest NeoAir. Seals, Snapdragon. SKBM is the only Nigel Dennis Expedition Centre in Mexico! This means they have excellent equipment and equally excellent safety standards.
Sea Paddler Training looks for fun conditions! SKBM uses both sides of the Baja peninsula to find appropriate learning opportunities—wind to about 15kts, seas to 3-4 feet, surf to 3 feet, current to 2kts. The course itinerary is flexible to take advantage of conditions in one place or the other, or avoid conditions that are too big.
