Sauk City to Wyalusing, 92 miles, 5-7 days, 30 hours

Trip Overview

The Big-Ka-Hoon-a, the Whole Enchilada, WRO's longest trip! Sauk City to Wyalusing, 92 miles, 30 hours of paddling. WRO suggests you avoid starting this trip on a Saturday to avoid the crowds in July and August on the first 25 miles of the trip. After Spring Green the number of people on the river drops significantly. Once you pass Boscobel you most likely won't see another soul. Most people will take 5 days to do this trip in normal weather and water conditions - but some have take 7 days. The owner, in a 17' sea kayak has done it in 3 days in spring water. See the entire Lower Wisconsin River with this challenging trip. Not recommended for beginners - it can be more of a mind game for most people.

Safety Notes

While the river is generally shallow, there are drop-offs. Those who are not strong swimmers should always where their life jacket when their feet are wet.

Gear Notes

WI River Outings rents: sleeping bags, tents, inflatable sleeping mats, camp tables, camp chairs, seat

backs and HIGHLY recommends at least a dry bag.

Conditions

The river is wide, so shade can be at a premium. If it's windy, it will generally be in your face since you're heading southwest. You'll learn to read the river quickly to avoid submerged sand bars. The most challenging part of the entire trip is making the turn into the Boscobel landing.
