Trip Overview

Spending a few days at Point Comfort on Old Piseco Road in Piseco NY is my favorite way to spend an early June. During the week I was the only camper in the campground, which makes for a great time, quiet the birds, squirrels, my dog and I.

I am relatively new to Kayaking, but this is my favorite place to visit so I decided to start here. Piseco Lake is wonderful with lots of little hamlets, coastline that is not inhabited, friendly boaters, and home owners. The lakes conditions vary, due to the wind. Early AM, and around 7 pm are generally calm.

Day 1:
I paddled across the lake to go to the "outlet". I was told there are great beavers and otters there. It was calm when I headed out and once I got over there it was calm and smooth kayaking. It was wonderful to watch the wild life and see some of the most endangered plants in the Adirondacks.

I paddled about 5 miles in and decided I was getting tired so had some lunch enjoying the sun. I headed back and when I got back to the lake itself it was very windy and choppy. I took my chances crossing the lake fighting the wind and waves. It was an experience so I ducked into an alcove area to wait it out a bit.. and decided to paddle around the lake vs trying to cross it midway.

The water is clean, and in July/ Aug has great swimming, and everyone was very nice and respectful on the water. Fred the DEC Campground operator is a wonderful man who looks out for his campers and can help guide you, since he and his wife Kayak.

A great place and a great lake.
