Pearl River in Mississippi

Trip Overview

Floated the Pearl from the Ross Barnett Spillway to Leflures Bluff. A strong wind was blowing out of the south, into our path, so the trip took about 6 hours in a canoe with my 7 year old son.

The river was low so not much current to counteract the wind. Beautiful sandbars abound, without having to fight the wind (which turned us around twice) it would have been a great, peacefully ride. Instead, I had to paddle hard to beat the wind.

This is a trip every paddler in the area should take. Gnats stayed with us the whole time and where not deterred by Deep Woods Off.
