My favorite Colorado Lake

Trip Overview

We usually just to here for day trips but there is camping accessible on the East side of the lake accessible by 4X4 if you're approaching from the North or a nice smooth road from the West. As you can see from the attached photo, it's very uniquely shaped and offers a lot of shoreline to follow. One section has the South Boulder Creek feeding into it and is a great place to fish.
One thing though as this place is managed by Denver Water and no swimming is allowed. Apparently, this is part of Denver's water supply. Regardless, it's a beautiful place for a day trip. Only primitive boats are allowed so you will not see or hear power boats ripping through the lake. Unless it's the patrol boat operated by Denver Water.
Morning conditions are usually calm but we have been hit with mountain rain and storms during the afternoon in the summer. It usually last about 10-15 and we're back out again.Check it out, I'm sure it will make your list of favorite spots in the front range.

Safety Notes

Usually open from Memorial Day to the end of September. Check with Denver Water for actual operating dates and time.
