Muskegon River in Michigan

Trip Overview

We put in below Croton Dam. Paddled down to Newaygo. A beautiful stretch of the river. The river is wide, quicker than downstream. A lot of gravel beds and rocks. Some fairly quick water. Most of the stretch is undeveloped and forested.

I highly recommend this stretch for anyone, anytime. Should be a spectacular run in the fall. It was about a 5 hour run. Other launch sites (Pine Street) would shorten the trip.

Accommodations:

Restaurants in Newaygo and Croton

Fees:

Some of the sites may need a county park sticker.

Directions:

Croton Rd. east of M-37 north of the bridge in Newaygo, about 10 miles. There is a parking lot at the boat launch.

Resources:

County map book.
