Trip Overview

My Uncle who is an avid kayaker from Colorado came to stay with us and wanted to take a kayak trip. He had never been on our "home" river which is the Looking Glass so we wanted to take him on a day trip.

We put in at Wood Rd. which is located on the East side of Dewitt between Business US27 and US 127. Myself, my uncle and three of my kids took the four hour trip to a park near the area of Herbison and Airport Rd. This trip could be done in 3 hrs but we took our time. Downtown Dewitt is approximately half way and is a nice spot to stop for a break.

The river was low because of the lack of rain lately but was still passable. Great river for kids and beginners. There are lots of fish and wildlife along the way which makes it interesting for kids.

Accommodations:

There are bathrooms located in the park in downtown Dewitt. There are also restaurants within an easy walk from the river in Dewitt.

Fees:

None

Directions:

US 127 North to the Round Lake Rd. exit, West on Round Lake to Wood Rd. South on Wood Rd to the river.
