Trip Overview

Took my first kayaking trip out to Long Pine Reservoir today. Its an average sized reservoir for the area. The lake is L shaped and probably has about 2-3 miles of shore line. Nice flat water, a little windy. If you take the hiking trail past the parking area, it goes over the hill and then comes down to a spillway and then a pretty scenic water fall, its probably about 60 feet. Its not natural, but still nice to have a look at. Word of warning, officially that particular trail is off limits, even though people hike it everyday. There may be another trail/route further up the road. If you go during the week you won't see many other people up there, but the weekend could be a different story.

Accommodations:

Parking, small boat launch. That's pretty much it.

Fees:

You need a PA boat permit.

It is $10 and you can get it at Gander Mountain by the mall or the park office located on route 30 about 1/2 mile from the light at caledonia.

Directions:

Route 30. Turn into caledonia and drive for about a mile, take the dirt road on the left.
