Little Muskegon River in Michigan

Trip Overview

Overlooked by many, this little river has it all: great fishing and it is very technical in nature.

The stretch between the Mecosta County line Road to Croton Pond is the best -- about 3 to 5 hours in a small kayak.

the last hour is for crossing Croton Pond to the launch on the far side. Paddle under the causeway and it's right in front of you.

This river is gorgeous and very tricky -- my girlfriend and I have both joined the "naked in the woods" club on this river while changing from soaked and cold clothes after wet exits on the river at various times.

After all the rivers and lakes we have paddled... this is our favorite river within a hundred miles of Grand Rapids, MI... so far. Enjoy.

Accommodations:

Bars with good food on Croton Pond across causeway.

Fees:

No fees. No camping on river... anywhere.

Directions:

Mecosta/county line road is off M-82. Turn north and park next to bridge.
WATCH FOR CARS WHEN IN ROAD -- CARS DO 75 AND THERE IS NO WAY TO SEE THEM TILL THEY ARE ON TOP OF YOU.
Take out at Croton Pond launch, ABOVE THE DAM!
