Lake Toppasha (Legion State Park) in Mississippi

Trip Overview

We kayaked and canoed this small lake for about an hour at Legion State Park. We saw a snake, turtles, geese, and many other birds. There was only one other boat in the lake, one man fishing from the bank, and one other family that stopped by for a short visit - very peaceful, slow paced.

It is about a mile around the lake. This is the first time we took our canoe and kayak on a trip that was not local to us - we were visiting family in the area, so it was a good opportunity for us to Test out our strapping.

The launch site is a gravel drive and is easy to travel if you don't have a 14ft trailer to pull behind your vehicle. Because we didn't want to risk getting stuck, we carried the canoe and kayak up/down the hill. It wasn't terrible (not anything like the spillway at the Reservoir in Jackson - if you are familiar with that)

This site wasn't a let down for us because we have visited this park for many years, however, unless you plan to fish, or if you are not a novice, this site may bore you quickly.

Accommodations:

Camp site, sitting areas, play ground

Fees:

$5 per boat and $2 per person to enter park
