Trip Overview

Lake Quannapowitt is a small lake with easy access. Good for quick jaunts in the early evening, especially after a long day at work. There is a small boat launch and a bit of a sandy area next to the launch, which is perfect for putting in with a kayak or canoe. The lake is shallow. Around a mile long, probably half a mile wide, you can make it around the whole thing in about an hour or so. I'm told it is good fishing although I have not fished it myself. In a stiff wind it can pick up a six-inch chop, but I've never seen anything bigger on it. Over all the scenery could be better. You can see a bunch of houses from the lake and a couple of office buildings, but it's a fun place to watch traffic from. The commuter rail looks particularly amusing from the middle of the lake.

Accommodations:

Boat launch, free parking!

Directions:

Take exit 39 off of route 95/128. Follow signs toward Wakefield. You will go immediately through a couple lights. After the lights you will see a cemetery on the left. After that there is parking on the left. The boat launch is right at the end of that. Less than a mile from the exit total.
