Lake Placid, NY

Trip Overview

Launched from Paradox Bay... Headed around Sand Point, through Sunset Straights and around the peninsula. Thought I was going around Buck Island, when in fact I went around the peninsula. When I realized where i was, I headed back along the shore. This turned out to be a longer trip than originally planned. I paddled about 10 km round trip, and was very happy to get back to the hotel for breakfast.

Safety Notes

It is easy to get turned around on Lake Placid, since it is a very large lake, with a jagged shoreline and many inlets and bays. Initially thought I was going around Buck Island. In the first bay on the left (see map) there is a sunken rowboat sitting in shallow water.

Gear Notes

SunDolphin Aruba 10 Mushometer app (sledding app... tracked return trip only)

Conditions

Choppier waters today. Lots of spray.

Portage Notes

Considered portaging ... !
