Lake Cleveland in Idaho

Trip Overview

Last September my brother and I were able to take a little camping/kayaking trip. It was great. Lake Cleveland is only 40 minutes from our house. The lake sits close to the top of a mountain. So in late September my brand new 4-season tent came in handy. The lake is surrounded by beautiful Pine trees and bulging rock formations. As you watch the lake you can see many fish jumping in the water like their just begging you to come swim with them. So that's what we did. Be sure to bring your fishing pole, the fishing is great. You can paddle from one side to the other in about 15 minutes.

If you come earlier in the year/June, July/ be sure to bring some snowboards or skis. There are usually big snowdrifts left from the winter. It just adds that much more fun to your trip. There is also World-class rock-climbing 30 minutes away in the City of Rocks near Almo Idaho with many more recreational opportunities. Hiking Climbing horseback riding etc. My dad actually offers horseback rides all over the area. He would be glad to take you out call Jerry at 208 824 5766.

So after a few laps around the lake we decided to set up camp. We pitched the tent right on the shore of the lake. It was great. We ate sandwiches and drank pop for dinner. As the night went along the wind really picked up, but to be in the tent was as if I were on my couch at home watching TV. It was so comfortable. We sat up all night talking our minds, laughing; and planning the next trip.

When morning came the wind was still gusting, but the kayak was to inviting. We went out on the kayak all day. We caught a few fish and fried them up on my new stove. After kayaking we put on our hiking shoes and went for a good 2 to 3 mile hike up the mountain. We saw a lot of wildlife; deer, hawks, eagles, and rodents. When we got back to the camp we were greeted by two more groups of paddlers, who were very nice and informative as to many other kayaking sites.

As we packed up camp our camping neighbors came and talked to us. It was a great atmosphere to be in. My brother and I had a great time at Lake Cleveland. We will have many stories to share with everyone about Lake Cleveland. The kayaking, camping, hiking and feel of the place was great I highly recommend this destination.

Accommodations:

Bring your tent and your set. I mean after all you are at a lake, what else do you need? There are a couple of toilets provided.

Fees:

There is a camping fee. Its not over 5 dollars per night.

Directions:

Turn south off of I-84 at Declo Idaho. Go about 15 miles to Albion follow the road headed to Elba. Turn off at the Pomerelle-Lake Cleveland turn-off. Go 9 miles up the canyon until you hit the lake. Enjoy.
