Trip Overview

We put put in at the Wilmingtons North Island (opposite of the dot) and took out at Des Plaines Conservation Area Boat Launch. Plenty of places to park on Wilmingtons North Island with Port a potties . Lots of parking near the concrete boat ramp at the Des Plaines Conservation Area and an outhouse. The trip was around 6 to 8 miles and took around 3 1/2 hours.

Safety Notes

The water was shallow and fast moving near the I55 bridge making it nessasary to stear away from large underwater bolders. At times the water was so shallow due to the dry spell we recenty encountered we hade to get out and walk. There were two small shipwrecks sticking up from the water.

Conditions

The River stated out with a mild current for the first quarter of the trip which was nice and relaxed, not having to paddle much. After that the wind statred blowing against us in the river valley making it necessary to paddle at a moderate rate to keep going forward for most of the rest of the trip.
