Trip Overview

Gunpowder Falls

Finally, kayak season has arrived and the 80 degree days are complimenting the great water conditions.

Drop in from York Rd. and you will find a pleasant moderate flow of above normal water heights all the way to Blue Mount Rd.

This trip is roughly 4 miles with a few obstacles including: a down tree spanning the entire width of the river, a massive beaver dam that is limbo-able on the right side, and two beaver dams that require you to walk around, a rapid section just after Big Falls that is just down right fun.

Our kayaks took great lines throughout the entire river and made for a great way to spend a Friday afternoon. This route is short of my normal destination, but we weren't paddling til roughly 5 O'clock. We made out of the water by 7:15 with multiple stops not including the obstacles.

If you are looking to spend a few hours enjoying your kayak without paddling your heart out, the Gunpowder Falls is the way to go. Plan your trip as far Sparks rd and plan for an entire day of fun at the Falls.

Hope this is of help to you my fellow paddlers!
