Green River - Expedition Island (Whitewater Park) in Wyoming

A self-supported trip created by rhoffmeyer

Trip Overview

There's a ramp on the SW end of the Expedition Island just upstream of the footbridge. There are many places around the island to put-in, however.

There is a gauge-weir just below the launch. Rainbow and brown trout are in the Green River both up and downstream.

You drive onto the island from the east and can continue on a footbridge to the west bank. The channel east of the island is a kayak course but was flooded out by high water during my visit (see picture to right).

It was at this launch that John Wesley Powell began his expedition that eventually made the first passage through the Grand Canyon, hence the name "Expedition Island".

Class I-II down to Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
