Trip OverviewFort Pike / The Rigolets
Arrived at about 3:30pm at the pier just onside Fort Pike. Launch areas are really good out here. You can launch and hop in your Kayak from the pier or you can launch from the shell beach which is what I had done. Although I pushed my Kayak out a bit and walked into the water and got in. If you do it this way, do wear water shoes, you can get them at Wal-Mart for about $5.00.
After launch, I paddled out against the strong easterly winds (about 20-25mph) and waves. Once out into the Rigolets, I encountered 3-4 foot white caps which the Pointer K1 handled well. I only paddled out about 180ft, just past the point onside Fort Pike and turned back to head in. Short but fun paddle in open water. I could have and would have went further but was running out of time.
