FLAT RIVER - East Riverside Park (Belding) to Ingalls Rd

Trip Overview

2.5 hours with moderate paddling and a 20 minute lunch break. Slow and easy river trip. 1 easy portage. Some businesses and houses on the shoreline early, then wilderness after a few miles. Several bridges. Great lunch spot with trash can up on the bank on the left side shortly after where the Fredrick Meijer trail bridge and the Veteran's Memorial bridge (44) intersect. The lunch spot seemed maintained for paddlers...there was a guy mowing the grass there and didn't seemed bothered by us being there. The takeout at Ingalls road is easy to find as there is a concrete wall on both sides identifying a historical bridge location. The water gets a little bumpy through here right before the takeout spot on the left right after the wall. Good eddy to take out in and shallow. Many kids jumping into a deep spot off the wall on the left when we were there.

Gear Notes

3 Kayaks

(Dodged many tubers)

Conditions

Calm and shallow in most spots. Easy to stand and walk.

Portage Notes

Easiest portage ever! Exit left at the dam. Maintained grassy slope and single file put it spot in a calm eddy. Water was not very turbulent coming out of the dam.
