Fishing Creek in Pennsylvania

Trip Overview

Fishing Creek (York County, PA) runs through our backyard in Etters. We are novice kayakers, so we thought we'd just splash around a little. But temptation got the best of us so we paddled further downstream. We had such fun that we kept going much farther than we thought we might. We put in at our home near where Hemlock Lane crosses the creek, and took out at Stillhouse Lane, which used to cross the creek by fording it.

The creek is not deep, and my kids did better than I. They have small, kids' kayaks which need only a couple inches of water. Mine, for adults, got stuck several times. I didn't mind. We had to get out and walk in the creek to avoid certain obstacles.

It is best to kayak this creek after rain that raises the water level some. In the dry of summer this would be no good
