Eno River in North Carolina

Trip Overview

A good overnight rain transformed a normally lower runable river into a perfect run. I tried Pleasant Green to Cole Mill Road. Class one and two rapids and no getting stuck on rocks. I spotted turtles, cranes, ducks and deer.

Continuing on to West Point on the Eno take out (right before dam) is another option, and probably would have taken another 1 1/2 hour.

Accommodations:

Put in 60 yards from parking lot. Mud ramp makes it easy to slip in. Take out in on left. Small dock is very easy to miss. This run took 1 hour 15 minutes but when you see people walking trails along the river, or small brown signs marking trails, you're getting close. Parking lot approximately 80 yards from river but it's a walk up several steep stairs. Very convenient.

Fees:

No

Directions:

From Durham, take hwy 70 west toward Hillsborough. (This is very near the intersection of 70 and I-85.) Take a right on Pleasant Green Road. (Look for Bull City Radiators which has a "tin man" looking muffler man out front.) Entrance to river access less than a mile on left. Marked with small brown sign but a little easy to miss.
